It's a new year, new opportunities

It's funny how our society and the world views the new year. In reality, it's just another day - January 1. No different than say April 17. But something about the calendar changing sparks new excitement and possibility for people.

We're one week into the new decade and the energy is palpable. People are seeing businesses starting to expand and bustle. Businesses are reporting increased sales, participation, bodies.

So in this new decade, how about leaving all negativity in the last one? How about finding opportunities and seizing them.

They're there for the taking.

Taking down time

I've been home with the flu for the last two days - doing absolutely nothing - something I rarely allow myself the luxury of doing. Interestingly, in doing nothing, I've come up with some really innovative ideas.

In our hurried, over stimulated world of email, blackberrys, iphones, facebook, social media, tv . . . we don't afford ourselves the time do do nothing.

To come up with that really clutter busting, creative idea for taking your business, product, idea to the next level - my recommendation - do nothing. Let the brain clear itself.

From that space of nothing - something great will emerge. Try it.

Opportunities Abound

Everywhere I go, I hear from people how dismal things are. The economy is in the toilet. Business is horrible. Layoffs are bountiful. It's all so negative, and I want to go home and start drinking.

BUT, in dire times, as in good times, opportunities are everywhere. If you look. They're there. Seize them.

While others are down and out, carpe diem. Market. Network. Connect.

Share your successes.
